The goal of this season is to explore these filmmakers through the lens of the “auteur theory,” which presupposes that some directors exhibit a distinct personal style and vision that impacts each and every one of their works. This is why two films will be screened in advance of each meeting in order to better “connect the dots” between a filmmaker’s stylistic consistencies and preoccupations.

Benjamin Wright is an independent film scholar based in Windsor, Ontario. He holds a PhD in Cultural Studies in Literature, Art & Culture at Carleton University and was previous Provost Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities in the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. His writing on film history appeared in numerous academic journals and book collections, and he has taught undergraduate media studies at the University of Southern California and the University of Toronto. He currently directs the academic program at the Windsor Centre for Film, Digital Media, and the Creative Arts.
