Our Programs

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

January 27 was designated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day by the United Nations General Assembly. This decision was made on November 1, 2005, when the UN adopted Resolution 60/7, which established the annual observance. The date was chosen to mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau by Soviet forces in 1945, one of the most notorious Nazi concentration and extermination camps. The resolution was supported by numerous member states and serves to honor the memory of the Holocaust victims and promote Holocaust education worldwide.

Reflect with us as we honour the memory of the Holocaust and its victims. This solemn day provides an opportunity for the community to come together in remembrance and reflection.

Yom Hashoah

Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, is a day of commemoration for the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust, as well as the Jewish resistance during that period.

Yom HaShoah is observed on the 27th day of Nisan in the Hebrew calendar, which typically falls in April or May. This date was chosen by the Israeli Knesset (parliament) in 1951 to coincide with the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, a significant act of Jewish resistance during World War II.

The day is marked by various commemorative events, including memorial ceremonies, educational programs, and moments of silence. It is a time for reflection, mourning, and a reaffirmation of the commitment to prevent such atrocities from happening again.

Unite with our community in a day of remembrance and tribute to those who perished in the Holocaust. Yom Hashoah allows us to honour their memory and ensure their stories are never forgotten.

Kristallnacht Commemoration

Our Kristallnacht Commemoration marks the anniversary of the November 1938 pogrom known as Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass. This tragic night saw the widespread destruction of Jewish homes, businesses, and synagogues, and the beginning of the Holocaust's atrocities. Through reflective ceremonies and educational programs, we remember the victims, acknowledge the resilience of survivors, and reaffirm our commitment to combating hatred and intolerance. Unite with us in honoring the memory of this dark chapter in history and ensuring that its lessons are never forgotten.

Student and Teacher Symposium on the Holocaust

Our Student and Teacher Symposium on the Holocaust is a multi-day program designed to provide top-quality Holocaust education. Catering to students in grade 6 and up, as well as offering separate sessions for teachers, this symposium brings guest speakers from prestigious institutions such as Yad Vashem, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), the Azrieli Foundation, and other renowned organizations. We also have the honour of hosting Holocaust survivors and their descendants, who share their personal stories and experiences. Through interactive sessions and expert insights, participants gain a profound understanding of the Holocaust, ensuring that its lessons are effectively imparted to future generations.

#NoMoreAntisemitism Conference

The "No More Antisemitism" conference in Hamilton addresses and combats the rising incidents of antisemitism within the community. It brings together leaders, educators, activists, and community members to discuss strategies for raising awareness, promoting tolerance, and fostering a more inclusive society. The conference features keynote speakers, panel discussions, workshops, and collaborative initiatives aimed at confronting antisemitism through education, advocacy, and community engagement. It serves as a proactive response to ensure Hamilton remains a safe and welcoming place for all its residents, regardless of their background.
